Mathematics Alumni Scholarship

These are scholarships awarded to students through the generosity of Mathematics alumni of the Department of Mathematics & Philosophy. They are given to new freshman mathematics majors, currently enrolled mathematics majors, and transfer students who have listed mathematics as their intended major.

CRITERIA:
1. Freshman must be recommended or nominated by a high school teacher addressing the student’s interest in mathematics and potential to succeed in a career related to mathematics; and the student must remain a math major for the period of the scholarship. Continuing students must be recommended by a faculty member addressing the student’s interest in mathematics and potential to succeed in a career related to mathematics; and the student must remain a math major for the period of the scholarship.
2. Incoming freshman must have an ACT math score of at least 23 (or SAT 540) and a high school GPA of at least 3.0 (on a 4-point scale).
3. Continuing students must have an overall college grade point average of at least 3.0 (on a 4-point scale), and at least 3.0 GPA in mathematics courses that count in the major (the number of mathematics courses completed will be one consideration).
4. Transfer student must be transferring with mathematics as the intended major; must have an overall college grade point average of at least 3.0 (on 4-point scale), and at least 3.0 GPA in mathematics courses that count in the major (the number of mathematics courses completed will be one consideration).
5. Preference is given to freshman and transfer students, as other scholarships exist for continuing students.
