RUTH DEXTER SCHOLARSHIP IN NURSING

This scholarship fund has been established by Dr. Donald H. Dexter in memory of his wife Ruth who passed away. Don and Ruth have a rich history with Western Illinois University and the surrounding area. Moving to Macomb with their new family in 1958, they quickly became a part of the community with Don practicing medicine and Ruth raising their four children. They have both loved and supported WIU with Don serving as the Team Physician for all athletics from 1961-1988 and also as a Physician at the University Health center from 1993-2007 after retiring from his private medical practice. Don and Ruth were loyal Leathernecks, attending almost every Football and Basketball game and as members of the Performing Arts Society, Leatherneck Club and other lectures over the years.

CRITERIA: Employee of McDonough District Hospital who have been approved by the McDonough District Hospital Loan Grant Committee and who have been accepted into the WIU Nursing Program and wish to pursue their Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree. If there are not any employees from MDH eligible, the award will be made available to individuals in McDonough County who have been accepted into the WIU Nursing Program and wish to pursue a BSN degree and have been approved by the McDonough District Hospital Loan Grant Committee.
