Vivian Diana Kline and Lenore Huston Kline New Freshman/Transfer Students Scholarship

This account was funded by a bequest from Ms. Vivian Diana Kline (Diana) and her mother, Lenore Huston Kline. Diana attended Western Academy in Macomb, IL, the high school division of Stephens College in Columbia, MO, and went on to complete her first two years of undergraduate training in the same school. She received her Bachelors and Masters in Art from the University of North Carolina.

CRITERIA:
 New Freshmen must have completed a minimum of two years of high school foreign language instruction with a minimum GPA for such coursework of 3.5. Transfer students are waived from this requirement if they have completed 6 semester hours of foreign language coursework at the post-secondary level with a minimum GPA of 3.5 in such coursework.
 A minimum ACT of 25 is normally required for eligibility, but may be waived in cases where the scholarship committee believes there is significant evidence of academic achievement from other sources.
 Must declare a major in degree program offered by the Foreign Languages and Literatures Department upon enrollment at WIU and enroll in a foreign language course at the appropriate level (as determined by transcript evaluation and/or placement exam) during the first semester of attendance at WIU.
 Preference may be given to primary (or first) majors.
Applicants must complete an essay (minimum 500 words) in English describing their prior experience with foreign languages and how they plan to utilize foreign languages in their future academic and career plans.
