Lever and Nina Wang Scholarship in Education

Lever Wang come to WIU in 1978, directly from his birth country of Taiwan. Immediately he appreciated the modern facilities of Malpass Library, Higgens Hall, Stipes Hall and others on the campus, and also many local families that were so welcoming him to WIU and surrounding communities. Many families invited him to visit their homes, farms and ranches, and showed him how globally they were involved in trading what they produced. WIU and these rural families gave Lever invaluable experience not just academically but also socially.

In the summer of 1979, Dr Patricia Huntinger of the School of Education gave Lever Wang a computer job in her Early Childhood Head-Start project (or Macomb Projects were later called). This first computer job in the U.S. let Lever purse his Compter Science and Management Information System career for the next 40+ years. These wonderful experiences motivated Lever and his wife, Nina, to set up a scholarship to reciprocally benefit in those communities.
