Dawn and Joel Thys Endowed Scholarship

Joel Thys was raised on a dairy farm in rural Iowa, where his work ethic and belief in the value of education began. While working full-time,Joel managed to complete four degrees in the non­traditional setting, including mainly evening coursework. These degrees included a technical AAS from Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC), an AAS from Kirkwood Community College, BA from Western Illinois University and :MBA from University ofiowa. He and his wife, Dawn, a long-time elementary educator herself, have instilled in their children that same work ethic and desire to continue their own education. The Thys’ belief in education and giving back to others is evidenced through this scholarship, as well as three additional they have established at Benton Community High School, DMACC, and Kirkwood CC.
CRITERIA:
Management, Marketing or Finance Major
Sophomore level standing upon receiving of scholarship (30 hours completed)
Minimum 2.5 GPA
Financial need should be top criterion for decision-making upon meeting the above three
