JUANITA PRICKETT MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

The Juanita Prickett Memorial Scholarship was established in 1988 in memory of Dr. Juanita Prickett. Dr. Prickett earned her B.A. degree in English from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale in 1946. Sometime later, she discovered speech pathology; and being the enthusiastic dynamo she always was, she became a speech pathologist by earning her M.S. degree in Speech Pathology also from SIUC in 1961. Dr. Prickett joined the faculty at Western Illinois University in 1968. Thus began her 14 years of devoted service to a large number of undergraduate and graduate students. In her classroom, who will ever forget “Boras”? In the clinic, Dr. Prickett quickly established herself as a quality clinic coordinator, a master clinician, and—most importantly—a friend of the students. Her unique style of teaching centered on involvement. In 1975, Dr. Prickett took a 1-year leave of absence from WIU to continue her education. She earned her Ph.D. in 1976 from the University of Illinois at the age of 60. She retired in 1982.
