Jerry Vigue Agriculture Scholarship

Jerry Vigue, who joined Western’s faculty in 1981, retired on Dec. 31 2006. Prior to joining WIU, Jerry was a faculty member at Washington State University. He has also conducted research in the Agricultural Colleges at the University of Illinois and the University of Massachusetts, after receiving his PH.D. in Crop Physiology from the University of Minnesota.

After the retirement of Jerry Carlson in 1996, Jerry began overseeing Western’s 80-acre organic Allison Farm in Warren County. Over the years he has received nearly $800,000 in funding for operation of the Allison Farm to conduct research on organic farming and marketing. As a professor, Jerry has taught 14 different classes in the agriculture department, averaging at least 70 students a semester for 51 semesters.

CRITERIA & ELIGIBILITY:
• Major in the School of Agriculture
• Completed a minimum of 30 semester hours by the end of the semester of application
• Minimum 2.75 GPA
• Preference given to applications who are active in the School of Agriculture activities, clubs, and student organizations
