SARAH MINER HOME ECONOMICS SCHOLARSHIP
Ms. Sarah Miner joined the faculty of WIU in 1936, where she taught Foods and Nutrition courses. In 1945, she became Department Chairperson, a position she held until her retirement in 1965. While undertaking this position, Ms. Miner saw the department grow to its present stature. Although she was a Department Chairperson, she continued to remain a member of the teaching faculty.
As a teacher, she inspired her students to reach their fullest potential. As an individual within the community, she constantly gave of herself to the betterment of others through her leadership and service to the community. After retiring from Western, she accepted a position as the chair of Home Economics at the University of Nigeria at Nsukka. In addition she also taught Foods and Nutrition courses.
CRITERIA:
Declared major in Dietetics, Fashion, Merchandising, and Hospitality
Junior, senior, or 5th year student
Have completed at least 12 semester hours of DFMH course work (at least 9 hours must have been at WIU for transfer students)
Minimum 3.25 GPA
