WILLIAM L. LAKIE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

The William L. Lakie Scholarship was established in 1988 by Mrs. Mary Lakie (currently Mary Lakie-Hermann) and friends in memory of William L. Lakie. William Lakie came to WIU in 1971 and served as dean of the College of Health, Physical Education, and Recreation until his death in April of 1988. During hiscareer at WIU, Bill developed many new programs with an interdisciplinary emphasis, including the Adult Fitness Program and the Human Performance Net in Brophy Hall, which was recently renamed in his honor. He was committed to the concept of fitness being part of everyone’s lifestyle.

CRITERIA:
 Graduate student in the departments of Health Sciences, Physical Education, or Recreation, Park and Tourism Administration planning to complete a master’s degree at WIU
 Minimum 3.5 GPA
 Must have completed 9 semester hours of credit towards the degree
 Demonstrate exemplary leadership and extra-curricular activities

This scholarship rotates each academic year between Health Sciences, Physical Education and RPTH.
