M. BERNADETTE MINGS KINESIOLOGY SCHOLARSHIP

The M. Bernadine Mings Scholarship was established in 1992 by Mr. Richard Mings, husband, and friends of M. Bernadine Mings. Bernie was an outstanding teacher and academic adviser in the Department of Physical Education and the WIU Athletics Department. She was devoted to setting goals and priorities which would lead to the right choices. She never missed a teachable moment because she wanted students to be the very best they could be.

Bernie earned her master’s degree in Physical Education from Western Illinois University. She taught for 28 years at WIU as an associate professor in physical education. In 1984 she was named the first athletic adviser at Western.

CRITERIA:
 Kinesiology major
 Undergraduate junior or senior class level
 Student-athlete for at least one academic year
 Minimum 3.0 GPA
 Exemplify the strong characteristics of a positive attitude, sound work ethic, and eagerness toward life’s challenges.
