DOROTHY HOLLAND SCHOLARSHIP

The Dorothy Holland Scholarship was established in March 2003. Ms. Holland was a 1942 graduate of Western Illinois University. She first worked as a teacher and later as a home economist. She retired in 1984 as vice president and director of consumer affairs of Kraft, Inc., having been their first woman vice president. In 1983 she was named Distinguished Alumna at WIU. She received the honorary degree of Doctor of Humane Letters in 1984. She served on the board of directors of the Senior Centers of Metropolitan Chicago. She had been a member of trustees for Marycrest College and on the advisory council of Ohio State University, University of Illinois, and Virginia Polytechnic College. She was past chair of the Grocery Manufacturers Association Consumer Affairs Committee, as well as past president of the board of trustees for the American Home Economists in Business and the American Council of Consumer Interests. She appeared before Congress in an advisory capacity concerning consumer affairs. She was a member of Confrerie de la Chaine de Rostisseurs, a food and wine organization that toured and attended cooking schools throughout Europe. She was active in the Chicago Hall House fund raising activities; served on the advisory board of Future Homemakers of America; served on the advisory council, Hospitality Foodservice Division-Bobbs Merrill Publishing Company; was advisor for Kraft’s six acre pavilion, “The Land”, which opened as part of Walt Disney’s EPCOT. She was also a judge for Mrs. America Pageant.

CRITERIA:
 Major in Dietetics, Fashion Merchandising and Hospitality
 Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
 Completed a minimum of 15 semester hours in Dietetics, Fashion Merchandising and Hospitality
 Sophomore, junior, or senior class level
 Enrolled full time
 Preference given to an outstanding student with a career goal in the foods area
