Janice Owens and Dr. Eric M. Stiffler Scholarship

This fund was established by Janice Owens upon her retirement form WIU. Janice retired as the Scholarship Director at WIU in 2010. Under her leadership, the Minority Achievement Program began. Her late husband, Dr. Eric Stiffler, began his career as a philosophy and Religion professor and then went on to serve as Director of the Honors program and as Acting Provost. He retired in 2005. The purpose of this scholarship is to assist students in purchasing supplies and books.


  • Sophomore standing or above
  • Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA
  • Evidence of Extra curricular activities
    Priority to: STudent majoring in the visual arts, second: minor in Philosophy with atleast 9 philosophy credit hours, Third:Any student with a major in CAS.
