CHOWN / HIMMEL SCHOLARSHIP

The Chown /Himmel Special Education Scholarship was established in 1986 by former Vice President for Business (Administrative) Services Art Chown and his wife, Roselyn. Mr. Chown served Western Illinois University from 1965 until his retirement in 1991. In 1965, Art was named internal auditor. While at Western, he served as controller, associate business manager, business manager, and acting vice president for business affairs, responsible for overseeing the areas of civil service personnel, business office operations, auxiliary services and the campus physical plant. In 1975 he was officially appointed Vice President of Business Affairs.

CRITERIA:
 Special Education major accepted into the Teacher Education Program
 Preference to students studying TMH
 Senior class level
 Minimum 3.0 GPA in special education courses
 The recipient must be actively involved in special education extra-curricular activities—Special Olympics, Council for Exceptional Children, etc.
