Colonel Marinda Coultas Wood Scholarship

A native of Jacksonville, Illinois, Marinda Coultas Wood (known informally as Joy Wood) graduated from Western Illinois University in 1958 with a degree in business and later earned a Master of Business Administration from the University of Alabama in 1968. She received an appointment as a second lieutenant in the United States Air Force and entered active duty in July 1958. Rising to the rank of colonel, Joy Wood pursued a varied Air Force career that encompassed accounting and finance operations at a number of locations both within the United States and overseas.

In August 1976, she entered the Air War College at Maxwell Air Force Base in Alabama, and upon graduation she was assigned as Director of Budget and Deputy Chief of Staff/Comptroller for the Military Airlift Command (MAC) at Scott Air Force Base in Illinois. In 1980, Colonel Wood assumed the position of Deputy Chief of Staff/Comptroller for Headquarters Air Force Communications Command (AFCC) also located at Scott Air Force Base. She retired from the U.S. Air force in 1984. Joy continues to be active in professional associations, and has been a part-time accounting instructor at Illinois College.

CRITERIA:
 Accountancy major
 Junior or senior class level
 Enrolled full time
 Must have completed intermediate accounting and have a minimum 3.2 in their major
 Preference will be given to students from Scott, Morgan, Greene, and Pike counties in Illinois, in that order, and to applicants who plan to sit for the CMA certification.
